Pronounces ben-ee-WAH-rain- These neutral, minimalist rugs hail from the Mid Atlas Mountains in the northern areas of Morocco. They are woven by Berber woman using live wool (wool sheered from living sheep). They are usually high pile and thick and shaggy because they were originally used as blankets or floors coverings by the people high up in the mountains to keep warm. Now, these rugs are super trendy and create a beautiful look in any room. Beni Ourains are generally white (cream) with brown or black thin lines. The motifs on these rugs represent the weaver life and often display symbols of fertility.
